About Us

Devonshire Manor is a small family owned care home at the heart of the local community.

The story began in 1987, when the owners purchased, 40 North Road as a single residential property.  Within a few months the adjoining property 38 North Road came on the market and it was decided upon that they would buy this property and turn the building into a residential care home.

After an awful lot of hard work and some very long days, Devonshire Manor was finally ready to accept its first resident towards the end of 1987. We started off with only a few residents and over the next few years we grew and grew. So much so that we were full within the first year and started to make a name within the local community for the high level of care that we provided. For years and years the owners relied upon word of mouth as their only advertisement and because of this there was a long waiting list to get a place at the home.

It was decided upon a few years later, when we had nine service users, to extend the home to the rear. It took over a year to complete but we now had a beautiful extension, which had four extra rooms. As well as the extra rooms we also had a large lounge and dining area. Prior to this, these area’s had been in the main house, so moving these enabled us to create extra rooms in the original building as well.

The home now had fourteen bedrooms, lovely landscaped gardens and was quickly filled. The registration of the home is for 15 service user’s, which means one of our larger bedrooms can be jointly occupied, however we use this room as a single bedroom, we would only change this for a married couple or the consent of both service user’s and their families.

The home was re-opened on 26th July 1991 by local MP Mr Frank Field. Devonshire Manor is still owned by the same company and continues to serve it’s local community.
